Matching or Choosing File Folders
There are three main sizes of folders. Letter size (12.25"), Metric Size
(13") and Legal Size (15.25"). If you want to match your existing folders,
simply measure from front to back (the longest side of the folder) and your
measurement will match one of the above sizes. If the length of the file folder is different, it could be a custom sized folder, please call us for assistance at 1-888-INFOFIL.
If you are considering a folder type for the first time, we highly recommend
Metric folders for letter sized records, and of course legal folders for
legal sized records. Metric folders have the extra room required to ensure
records stay contained within the folder, as well lettersize top tab folders can be inserted fully in-tact in to a metric size Expansion Folder.
Metric Folders should be used if you have 15" shelving in your office, and
of course Infofile offers 15" shelving equipment should you need to order
equipment for the first time. If you only have 12" shelving or cabinet
space, than letter size folders are your best option.
Choosing a Folder Thickness
All of our folders are very high quality, less than 10% post-consumer waste
material. This means our folders have high strength and last for a very
long time. Additionally our folders are available in 11pt. (light weight)
or 14pt. (medium strength) thickness. For very large records (approximately
4" in width) we recommend either splitting records in to volumes with
standard folders or using Expansion or Pressboard folders. Both types are
very high strength and made to hold more content. Expansion folders are
open only on one side like a pocket, and Pressboard folders are very thick
versions of standard file folders.
Matching Existing Folder Colour or Finish
Folders are available in various colours, known as full colour folders.
Folders with only a stripe of colour along the end tab are known as coloured
end-tab folders.
If your folders have a plastic shine near the front, they are mylar
reinforced folders. If they have a plastic shine along the entire outside
of the folder, they are Mylar coated Folders. Mylar is used to strengthen file
folders either along it's entire side or where it is 'grabbed' when pulled
off of shelving equipment.
Matching The End Tab
End Tab Folders are all similar, but can have slight differences in look.
Some have an end-tab that is the full height of the folder - known as Full
End Tab folders, and they are approximately 9.25" high. Some have a small
notch cut out of the bottom of the end-tab, known as rounded-notched end tab
folders or square notched end-tab folders - depending on the shape of the
notch. Photos of the folders are available as you traverse our products
page to give you an exact match.
Very high quality, high strength folders are available in a range of colours
and patterns - known as Genuine Pressboard. Please call us if you're
looking for high-strength folders w/ an exceptional finish.
Matching Fasteners
All folders we sell with the exception of Expansion Folders can have heat
seal fasteners installed at any of 8 locations within the folder. The
advantage to our fasteners is that they do not protrude outside of the
folder and yet are as strong as riveted fasteners. By keeping a fastener
contained within the folder, you will not cause damage when removing and
replacing adjacent folders in a filing system.
To order fasteners, simply order the folders you like
and then answer the questions on the simple pop-up screen that
appears.
