Why Colour Code?

Colour coding of file folder labels are the result of 35+ year old technology. There are very few mid to large sized business's that do not colour code their folders, simply because colour coding:

  • Increases filing efficiency
  • Reduces access time when locating files, on any size of file system
  • Reduces filing time, locating exact areas of a system is very quick
  • Virtually eliminates misfiles
    • Mis-files can be seen at a glance by an odd break in the colour code
  • Reduces training time for new employees

What to know

Data-match is the industry standard colour-code system for filing. It is best to use the data-match system for a number of reasons.

Proprietary Systems: Data match is the most commonly used colour code, although others are available. Could you imagine if Microsoft, Logitech and Compaq designed keyboards with the keys in completely different places? By using Data-Match you often hire employees familiar with the same standard.

The Code Itself: Not all colour codes are created equal. It is impossible to create 26 unique and distinct colours for labels. The human eye just can not perceive the tiny differences between 26 different colours. To get around this, some companies offer a system where a colour can repeat 3 or 4 times. Labels from Infofile, or the "Data-match" system only have one colour repetition across the entire alphabet. A very distinct and easy to spot line differentiates letters in the second half of the alphabet. Distinct colours and a simple layout make Infofile labels the fastest and easiest to work with.

The Design: Many companies promise a good label but can not deliver. To cut costs on label creation labels are not 'slit' at the wrap-around point, this makes applying the label uniformly on each folder difficult. Without a slit the label wants to remain straight and this strain can cause the label to unstick over time. Our labels use long life adhesives to ensure labels stay on the folders. Mylar coating the label also extends adhesion and reduces fading of the label colour.

The Price: Infofile sells labels at approximately 1 cent Canadian per label. We sell in quantities as low as 252 for $3.90. Our labels are the highest quality and the lowest price.
